wear: 2014 Academy Award Fashion

Last night, the end of the 2013-2014 award season came to an end. The 86th annual Academy Awards aired last night and if you had been paying attention at all this award season, the usual suspects were awarded a golden statute. The only thing that wasn’t predictable was the red carpet. It had been raining for days leading up to the award ceremony, but fate intervened and the Hollywood stars were able to Here are 10 of my favorite looks of the night:

  • Lupita N’yongo was the one to watch last night. No red carpet dress was more anticipated than hers and she did not disappointed. Looking like a Disney princess in this Nairobi blue Prada gown inspired by her native country and champagne bubbles was a stunner on the newly minted Academy Award wining actress.
  • Sandra Bullock is another actress who never disappoints. Looking stunning in a navy blue Alexander McQueen, Bullock continued her effortless red carpet streak.
  • It’s no surprise by now that at every major red carpet award show, Jennifer Lawrence will wear Dior. The fun comes in guessing which gown she would wear. The simple red peplum gown looked great with Lawrence’s hair and makeup and was reminiscent of the red Calvin Klein she wore when she nominated for the first time.
  • Kerry Washington’s style has been love it or leave it during her pregnancy and as her due date gets closer, she has been knocking it out of the park. She looked gorgeous in lavender Jason Wu.
  • Every time I see Emma Watson on a red carpet, I can’t help but think, “shouldn’t she be in school?” Even if she still is a student at Brown, I’m glad she skipped her weekend study session at the library to attend the Oscars because she looked awesome in this Vera Wang top and skirt.

86th Annual Academy Awards

Neutral colors reigned on the red carpet this year. I lost count of how many beige, white, and silver dresses I saw, but they were each beautiful. Here were my favorites:

  • Jennifer Garner drew inspiration from the 2 time Academy Award winning film, “The Great Gatsby” in her silver flapper dress by Oscar de la Renta.
  • It’s always a pleasure to see Angelina Jolie on the red carpet, especially when she isn’t wearing her signature color, black. She looked great in Elie Saab.
  • Cate Blanchett was not only a shoo-in for best actress, but she was bound to make the best dress list before she even stepped foot on the red carpet. confection was amazing Armani Prive gown.
  • Naomi Watts brought a little edge in her Calvin Klein gown and Bulgari jewels.
  • Jessica Biel looked pretty in Chanel Couture.
