appreciate: Jules Olitski

Jules OlitskiI have been talking for months about wanting to paint: I have the paint, I have the canvas, and I have the brushes. All I need is the inspiration. I am drawn (no pun intended) to abstract art (mainly because I’m not a pro with the paintbrush yet). I have been looking at different artists and one that has caught my eye recently is Ukrainian American artist Jules Olistski. What I find interesting about this artist besides his beautiful paintings with their visible brushstrokes (a technique I am think about exploring) is that in the beginning of his career, he engaged in an exposed self-evaluation where he would paint blindfolded, freeing any critiques he would have had otherwise on his work. If like that would be a mind opening experience and it something I will consider as I explore my painting techniques. More of Olistski’s work can be found here.
