Appreciate: Nam June Paik
One of the perks of living in Washington, D.C. is being able to go to its numerous art museums and galleries for free. A couple days ago, I went to the Smithsonian National Gallery of Art and came across this striking installation by artist Nam June Paik called “Electronic Superhighway”. I knew immediately I had to look more information about this artist. Nam June Paik was a Korean American artist who is credit for coining the term, “information highway” due to his use of various types of media in his works. In this installation, which he completed in 1995, Paik is making a commentary on American culture and its obsession with consumerism and television. It is visually striking to see in person and if you are ever in the Washington, D.C. metro area, I highly suggest seeing this, it makes for a great Instagram picture is nothing else.
