Appreciate: Chad Wys “Brutalized Delights” Series
I’ve taken a few art history classes and something I had always wondered was who or what defines what “art” is and what is the meaning of art. Why are some paintings more valuable than others? What is so special about some of the most famous works of art? I believe it is because art is subjective and reappropriation is a way of interpretation and a way of creating dialogue about art. That is what artist Chad Wys does with his work. In this series, he takes sculptures and prints of historical paintings and manipulates them with different mediums like paint and tape. His work reminds me of Bansky, who is known for creating art that doubles as social commentary. If you are interested in more of Chad Wys’ work, his official website can be found here. What are your thoughts on his work?
