Wear: Rodarte Spring 2013
I’ll be honest: when Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte came out with their early collections, I wasn’t really a fan. In my opinion, it seemed like they took a random assortment of fabrics with different textures, threw them on a mannequin, and sewed a dress on them. In recent years, their approach has changed, making the fashion world more receptive to them. They still use a variety of fabrics, except it is in a more precise, cleaner way. A good example of that can be found in their spring 2013 collection. The Mulleavy sisters seemed to be influenced by medieval clothing, based on the decadent corsets found on their dresses and the ornate shoulder blade padding. There were also traces of 80s and punk influence with the geometric pull overs and leather lace-leggings. Their collection was a success and will be eaten up by fashionistas everywhere. Plus, how amazing are those shoes??
