Wear: Jill Stuart Spring 2013
A few years ago, the fashion world had an obsession with the 1960s, thanks to the television show, “Mad Men”. Longer hemlines and modest cuts made a comeback to the runways. Now, designer Jill Stuart is channeling 1920s “The Great Gatsby” in her new Spring 2013 collection. Satin, sequins, lace, and organza all made an appearance on this runway. The most apparent 1920s reference can be seen in the first picture with the fabric, cut, and paneling of the champagne jumpsuit. The most versatile look is the second picture, which can be dressed up or down because of its clean palette. The lace top with the crisp white pants is reminiscent of Katherine Hepburn, who made menswear look more feminine. The final look, which is nothing but sequins, could have come off as looking like a disco ball, but Stuart’s tailoring made the dress sleek and fashion forward. While clearly inspired by old Hollywood glamour, these looks have been translated to today and with the right styling, can look modern.
