Listen: Azealia Banks

, Listen: “212” and “Liquorice”

Television shows are a great way to find out about new artists and music. If it wasn’t for shows like “The O.C.”, “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Gossip Girl”, I bet my iPod would have a lot more space on it. I heard Azealia Banks’ first single, “212” on the hit British show “Skins” and the second I heard it, I had to find out who sang it and download it to my iPod. Apparently, I wasn’t the only one taking notice. Banks has garnered famous fans like designers Alexander Wang and the Karl Lagerfeld.Comparisons to Nicki Minaj and Lil’ Kim are inevitable and run rampant because she is an African-American rapper, but all comparisons end there. The beats she raps over have a 90s hip-hop flare to it and her lyrics are filthy, yet not offensive and catchy. Her debut album, “Broke with Expensive Taste” is slated to come out in February 2013 and I will be counting down the days until that CD comes out. I hope you will join me.
