Watch: “Lars and the Real Girl”
2011 was the year of the Gosling. Ask anyone on the street, famous or not, and they would pick Ryan Gosling as their celebrity crush. Like some heartthrobs before him like Leonardo diCaprio and Brad Pitt, it’s often hard to remember that Ryan Gosling is not only just a pretty face, but is an amazing actor. In his film, “Lars and the Real Girl”, he showcases that talent. He packs on the pounds, grows out a mustache to mask his movie star looks to star in this unconventional love story. Gosling plays the socially awkward titular character who is a bit of a loner who lives next door to his brother and his sister-in-law in a small town. The two of them are always trying to get Lars to be more social, but he avoids any form of interaction. So they, along with the entire town, are surprised when Lars introduces them a woman that he met on the internet named Bianca…who is actually a life size sex doll, but Lars believes is a real person. Based on the description, the film sounds like another R-rated rom-com with lewd jokes and situations, but it is actually a heart warming story about the human condition that is definitely worth checking out on a lazy Saturday.
