Listen: Rizzle Kicks
Songs: “When I Was a Youngster”, “Down with the Trumpets”, and “Mama Do the Hump”
Some people may have been introduced to Rizzle Kicks through the Olympic opening ceremony when their song, “When I was a Youngster” was played during the celebration of British music act. But the duo of Jordan “Rizzle” Stephens and Harley “Sylvester” Alexander-Sule formed back in 2008 and have been a big hit in their native England ever since. Similar to artists like Justin Bieber and Greyson Chance, the pair was discovered through their homemade videos that they posted on YouTube and their blog, “Your Daily Kicks” and they were eventually signed to Island Records. Their first official single, “Down with the Trumpets”, went certified gold, and their second single, “When I Was a Youngster”, recently went platinum. Their sound is reminiscent of old school hip-hip but contains with modern, relevant lyrics. Rizzle Kicks are a part of British music scene that involves Graffiti 6, Ed Sheeran, and Olly Murs who are poised to take over the American music scene very soon, just as the Wanted and One Direction has recently done.
